The site located in Rochestown Cork, The brief was to take a North facing patio and create an unobstructed view of the Cork Estuary. The name of the extension derives from the max manufacturing dimensions of plate glazing supplied by WCG in Cork 10 metres by 4 metres by 4 metres. The sliver of patio demanded an inventive approach that satisfied the brief and we took the approach to bookend the large glazed sections with zinc roof and walls. This zinc book end allowed for a better transition between the existing building and the new glass box.
The glazing was framed by a reflective pool to reflect its landscape view of the Estuary in Rochestown and the Architecture is one of supreme engineering and minimal detailing to create the lightweight aesthetic. The material choice was a simple combination of bush-hammered Kilkenny limestone flooring which ran from inside to an outside patio.
