The site located in Model Farm Road, near Ballincollig in Cork.
The land was part of an older plot of approx. 1.5 acres and enjoyed mature planting and species trees which served as both a backdrop and an inspiration for the design. Glue laminated structures puncture through large glazed elements to reference its sense of place and to create a bit of drama as you enter the site. Sustainable Accoya timber was used on the high soffits to lighten the look of the house and Liscannor stone was used to ground the building on the wings of the main kitchen, living , dining block. High sustainable credentials for A1 house with piled ground source heat pump and HRV.
The 3 kinks between the living, entrance and bedroom elements are rotated to follow the sun path, create different views from the garden, and align with existing boundaries all at a 5 degree rotation.
