The site located off Lovers Walk Montenotte Cork City.
The challenges for the site are evident in the upside-down plan of the house. A 45 degree slope on a kidney-shaped site was our starting point. The upper levels were retained for entry and utility room space with the bedrooms having access to the lower level garden. The Upper living areas enjoying the best of the views also required outdoor space which generated a U-shaped plan that left usable balconies off the kitchen and living areas creating a terraced green shelf on the site. Each of the living rooms has a vaulted ceiling and the stair case acts as a hinge between 2 mono-pitched elements that accommodated bedrooms and an office mezzanine. Cedar cladding softened the link and a floating internal bridge at the entrance created interesting double-height space on entering the building.
